Customer Review: Bravo!
What a great book! This breaks down the seasons and the aromas appropriate for each. I love the easy to follow recipes and suggestions.
Customer Review: I love this book!
I have purchased a number of aromatherapy books over the past year or so and taken out about every one my local library holds. This book far exceeds them all for practical, accesible knowledge. They make it fun and start you out with oils that most people can afford. Some of the books I have list recipes, supposedly for beginners, that use 10 drops of rose absolute, jasmine and the more expensive or unusual oils. That’s all well and good, but for someone just getting into aromatherapy, they aren’t likely to spend… $$$ for a 1/4 oz. bottle of rose EO. This book is easy to understand, the recipes are easy to make and easy to enjoy and the information provided is good. They start out with oils that are affordable and easily found, but also present special oils each month, like jasmine, frankinsence, and rose, that one can “move up to”. The only thing I wish they had made more clear or stressed more was about applying oils neat. Some of the recipes aren’t clear about that and for someone who is just starting, they may not realize that there aren’t a lot of oils that you want to use neat due to their strength. Anyway, great book! I love it.
Aromatherapy‘>Aromatherapy Book: Inhalations and Applications (Jeanne Rose Herbal Library) (Jeanne Rose Herbal Library)
Jeanne Rose, affectionatley known as the Grand Dame of aromatherapy to those in the field, has compiled over the years a wealth of practical and researched information about aromatherapy. With her charming humor she weaves the history of aromatherapy. In this book you will find almost anything you would want to know about aromatherapy including recipes, her own and others, from skin care to pet care. She even covers the unusual aspects of aromatherapy such as the musical and chakra qualities of essential oils. An excellent book for beginners or beyond. It is a wonderful book for looking up particular essential oils, finding their properties, cautions etc. for both the beginner and advanced aromatherapy student. The aromatherapy reference charts listed in the book are indispensable and there is even a Chakra and Color chart as well.

Customer Review: Informative
This book lets the beginner know all about aromatherapy. I’m a beginner and it gives more than enough information for me to mix and blend oils for healing. It has a section defining different terms used in aromatherapy. I find this very helpful because I like to know the meaning of words so that I will know what I’m talking about while explaining terms to friends.
Customer Review: Buyer beware - dangerous advice in this book!
I don’t like to pan books, but unfortunately Jeanne Rose has written a book containing many dangerous recommendations. The Aromatherapy‘>Aromatherapy Book is not a good book for anyone but advanced aromatherapy practitioners with a solid knowledge of essential oil safety. Some of the dangerous suggestions in this book include using highly irritating and sensitizing cinnamon bark oil for head lice, putting sensitizing Peru Balsam on broken and chapped skin, and baths and skin treatment with lemon verbena, an oil so phototoxic and sensitizing that it has been banned in European perfumery. Rose even suggests using sassafras oil and tea without mentioning that both contain a potent carcinogen and are FDA banned. It’s a pity that Rose paid so little attention to safety, because there are some very creative uses of essential oils and lots of interesting stories and history in the book. There are sections on spiritual and emotional uses of essential oils, vendor listings, and a nice chapter on natural perfumery. Just remember that if you choose to buy this book, you must doublecheck all of the essential oil uses against some very reliable safety information.
