Customer Review: Great read - great for reference
This is exactly what I have been looking for. It combines practical application with reasonable science while focusing on healing. In the back are several appendices listing the recommendations and summarizing the findings. Definitely worth the time and money.
Customer Review: Evidence-based aromatherapy, a valuable resource for nurses.
As a recently qualified nurse I have been brought up on evidence-based practice. Shirley Price certainly offers this with well-referenced texts, fully documented evidence, and examples of anecdotal evidence from informed practitioners. There is however, a reluctance to acknowledge the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary aproach to healing by an insistance that aromatherapy is sufficient in it’s own right without the need to incorporate skills related to nursing. This is understandable in a climate of complementary medicine having to justify it’s own existance in the world of modern medicine. There is detailed information on antiseptic/bacterial/viral qualities of oils. The paragraph on the use of essential oils with learning disabilities was disappointing - referring only to the oils which should not be used as opposed to what could be used for various cognitive actions. There was also little reference to aromathrapy for smell-memory, dementia, short-term memory integration and epilepsy management.
